The show opens with a short video featuring Julia Roberts as the voice of nature in “Nature Is Speaking.” At the end of her message, the King of Creation awakens the sleeping wildlife. The Four Elements — Water, Air, Fire, and Earth — are then unleashed in a series of breathtaking aerial performances, accompanied by evocative sounds and ancestral music from around the world. Each group of young performers takes the stage to express their creativity, combining elegance and strength in dizzying vertical movements. Their choreography includes geometric poses, suspended figures, swings, wraps, saltos, flips, and dramatic drops — all performed mid-air, using only two silk ribbons. As the show reaches its climax and the elements come together in harmony, it ignites a renewed sense of belonging to our one shared identity: the Human Race. It is in that moment that a new era of awareness and respect for the planet is born.

 

Born with an unwavering passion for dance, Simona Sacristiani’s journey began in the vibrant landscapes of southern Italy. At just three and a half years old, she insisted on taking dance classes, embarking on a path filled with determination and dreams. Although her parents initially believed it was a passing childhood whim, they quickly recognized her exceptional commitment. Simona was not only the youngest in her class but also the most dedicated. Her talent caught the attention of a prestigious ballet school, but the distance and costs involved made attending an unattainable dream. As she entered adolescence, Simona set aside her ballet slippers to pursue a different path, excelling in foreign languages and building a successful career in tourism. For a time, dance became a distant memory. Then in 2017, fate stepped in and introduced her to Aerial Dance. Mesmerized by artists defying gravity on flowing lycra ribbons, a spark reignited within her. Embracing the Ciampa Aerial Passion method — designed to make the joy of “flying” accessible to all — Simona found her way back to movement. Through personalized programs that foster both physical strength and self-esteem, she not only became a technical instructor but also achieved the highest level of certification recognized by the Italian Gymnastics Federation (FGI) and the International Olympic Committee (CONI).Since 2019, Simona has been based in Mauritius, where she shares her love of Aerial Dance with the next generation. She has performed in prestigious venues such as the Caudan Arts Centre, and her classes — which began at Baraka Cirq in Coromandel — have since expanded to Toposphere in Floreal and Ignite Studios in Ebene, inspiring many with her grace and passion.

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favourite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.  Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

 

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek.  One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

 

This show features students of Le Bocage International School from Form 1 to Form 7.

The workshop will be led by Poonam Seetohul, theatre practitioner and experienced educator in drama and literature.

 

The programme:

 

DAY 1          Based on building an ensemble, participants will also be looking into Hamlet’s world and famous quotes and soliloquies while being on their feet!

 

DAY 2          Participants will be led to explore the text further through voice and delivery; This session will also enable participants to develop an audience perspective and be more familiar with dramatic techniques for analysis

 

DAY 3          Participants will get to explore stage work through rehearsals and a short

performance.

 

A Certificate of Participation will be provided upon full completion of the workshop.

 

Participants will need to wear comfortable clothes, bring their own lunch, water and writing material.  Though not compulsory, a copy of Hamlet might come in useful too, and why not a pair of non-slippery socks!

 

Poonam Seetohul

Poonam has been heavily involved in theatre-making in schools and organisations for over 2 decades now, building not only on performance, but on the physical, vocal and emotional expression of participants too.  Her approach is eclectic and built on various theatre programmes that she attended in Austria, India, Italy and Mauritius.  Her work encompasses productions ranging from the classical to more contemporary genres in English, French and Creole.

Originally from Mauritius, Rahul Suntah is an internationally acclaimed pianist who brings the piano to another level. After a successful concert last year, Rahul is back with more piano arrangements of Pop, Bollywood and Sega hits, more film scores and more original compositions from his new upcoming piano album in addition to his already celebrated piano arrangements of Interstellar, Bohemian Rhapsody, Gulabi Aankhen, Dodo Baba and his original Paradise Island.

 

Learning the piano at the young age of 8 in Mauritius, Rahul was classically trained at the Frederic Chopin Conservatory of Music and then graduated with a bachelor’s in Music Technology at UWE Bristol followed by a master’s in Film Scoring on scholarship at the University of Bristol in 2021. Besides his musical education, Rahul is a versatile musical artist known online for his unique piano covers and compositions being among musicians who are reshaping the way the piano is played, garnering millions of views and over 100,000 cumulative followers on social media, also winning several talent show awards and attracting considerable worldwide media attention in the last few years from broadcasting platforms such as BBC, ITV, e.tv, Classic FM and Right This Minute. Breaking boundaries between the world of Classical and Popular music with unconventional piano extended techniques, looping technology and synth setups, Rahul is a one-man band who can also adapt a wide range of other musical genres to his solo piano performances such as Electronic, EDM, Jazz, R&B, Pop, Rock, Bollywood and Sega to name a few.

 

In the last few years, Rahul had numerous accolades abroad such as winning the UWE Bristol Talent Show, having his track ‘Paradise Island’ listed among the top tracks of 2021 on BBC Music Introducing. Additionally, Rahul also performed at the prestigious Manchester Cathedral, had his first headline shows in Bristol and London and opened for Amsterdam’s Maandag Award Show after starring in their TV advert in 2022. After 6 years spent studying, performing and teaching abroad, Rahul has decided to come back to Mauritius to re-discover his roots and is now eager to showcase his musical world and the potential of the acoustic piano to the Mauritian audience with his new upcoming piano album in the works following a successful sold-out piano concert last year.

Après un concert couronné de succès l’année dernière, Rahul revient avec de nouveaux arrangements de tubes Pop, Bollywood et Séga, de nouvelles musiques de films ainsi que des compositions originales issues de son prochain album piano. En brisant les frontières entre la musique classique et la musique populaire grâce à des techniques de piano étendues non conventionnelles, à l’usage de la technologie de boucles (looping) et de synthétiseurs, Rahul est un véritable orchestre à lui seul. Il adapte également une large palette de styles musicaux à ses performances solo au piano : Électronique, EDM, Jazz, R&B, Pop, Rock, Bollywood, Séga, entre autres.

 

Ces dernières années, Rahul a accumulé des distinctions à l’international, remportant notamment le UWE Bristol Talent Show et voyant sa composition Paradise Island figurer parmi les meilleurs titres de 2021 sur BBC Music Introducing. Il s’est produit dans des lieux prestigieux comme la Cathédrale de Manchester, a assuré ses premières têtes d’affiche à Bristol et Londres, et a ouvert le Maandag Award Show à Amsterdam après avoir été la vedette de leur campagne télévisée en 2022. Après six années passées à étudier, se produire et enseigner à l’étranger, Rahul a choisi de revenir à l’île Maurice pour se reconnecter à ses racines. Il souhaite désormais partager son univers musical et démontrer le potentiel expressif du piano acoustique au public mauricien avec son nouvel album piano actuellement en préparation, faisant suite à son concert à guichets fermés de l’année dernière.

Since his birth, he has stood out for his unique spirit. At the age of seven, he began to show a genuine curiosity for music, listening to it with meticulous attention and handling instruments with respect. He experimented on his own, then with young ensembles, and was already very serious about it. Soon, as a teenager, he was being paid to perform and play. Manu Desroches is now twenty-nine years old, and curiously, his music career spans over more than a decade. He has worked, played, and toured both nationally and internationally with Mauritian music giants. He does not limit himself to specific genres: traditional percussion, jazz fusion, blues, oriental, pop, and has experimented with unconventional compositions. He sings and thrives on guitars, basses, and percussion. Today, Manu Desroches is mature and ready to share his songwriting with the world through an authentic and glorious album, a solo project. Manu Desroches represents a universe of grace and endless poetry, unparalleled anywhere on the globe.

Animé par deux conteuses-membres du Collectif Enn Zour dan Enn Pei, ces lectures contées s’insèrent dans l’objectif global du festival du conte “Enn Zour dan Enn Pei”, de sensibiliser et éduquer la population (et ici, les enfants) sur le pouvoir du racontage d’histoire, afin de ré-intégrer la force de l’imaginaire dans le storytelling, et en se basant sur l’univers très riche du Bestiaire des îles-soeurs, Ile Maurice et Ile de la Réunion. C’est cette thématique du Bestiaire qui est le fil-conducteur de tout le festival dans son ensemble.

 

Documentaliste à l’École du Nord et voix derrière le podcast Cannes à sucre et préjugés, Cristèle Merven de Spéville explore avec finesse les questions d’identité dans une île aux multiples visages.

Après le succès de l’histoire de Mr Barnum, la troupe amateur A Million Dreams Mauritius revient sur scène avec un nouveau spectacle : I Have a Dream! Une ode à l’amour, à la famille et à l’amitié, portée par de jeunes artistes motivées.

 

Bienvenue à l’Hôtel Sheridan, un petit coin de paradis à l’île Maurice. C’est dans ce décor tropical que se déroule l’histoire de Donna Sheridan, sa fille Sophie et bien d’autres personnages. À la veille de son mariage avec Sky, Sophie est tourmentée par une question essentielle : qui est son père ? Élevée seule par Donna, une femme forte et indépendante, Sophie ne la jamais connu. Déterminée à lever le mystère avant de dire “oui”, elle invite en secret trois anciens amours de jeunesse de sa mère et potentiels pères : Sam, Harry et Bill.

 

Pendant que Donna s’affaire aux préparatifs du mariage, elle retrouve ses deux meilleures amies, Rosie et Tanya, avec qui elle formait autrefois un groupe musical glamour. De son côté, Sophie est rejointe par ses deux inséparables copines, Ali et Lisa, venues la soutenir dans ce moment crucial. Entre quiproquos hilarants, retrouvailles émouvantes et révélations inattendues, une question reste en suspens : qui accompagnera Sophie à l’autel ?

Chants, danses, costumes à paillettes et énergie débordante s’enchaînent au rythme des plus grands succès d’ABBA :  Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Take a Chance on Me, The Winner Takes It All..
