Abe Rábade (piano, composition) and María Toro (flute) present an intimate one-hour recital that blends original works with traditional music from their native Galicia. Length of event: 1h
Pianist and composer Abe Rábade and flamenco and jazz flute player María Toro propose an intimate concert format featuring a piano and flute duet, occasionally expanding the expressive palette with the inclusion of voice and percussion through the pandeireta.
The recital lasts approximately one hour and includes original compositions by both musicians, as well as traditional music from Galicia—their native land—presented in unique arrangements. These arrangements create a hybrid musical language that draws from jazz, popular, flamenco, and experimental elements, offering a fresh and contemporary perspective.
This collaboration marks their first joint project, despite sharing remarkably similar musical backgrounds and sensibilities. Until now, they had not had the opportunity to prepare an artistic program together in such a dedicated way. This occasion allows them to do so exclusively, with the aim of promoting and sharing the richness of Galician traditional music beyond their borders. In open dialogue with popular songs from across the Spanish territory, the program highlights the cultural diversity and richness of their country.

María Toro
María Toro has been leading her own project for fifteen years. From her native Galicia, where she graduated in classical music, specializing in flute and flamenco jazz in Madrid, Switzerland, New York and Rio de Janeiro.
The cultural crossroads in which she immersed herself allowed her to record different works on different scales, always as the main author and performer. In Switzerland she starts composing her first album, “A Contraluz”, recorded in New York in 2014. In Brazil she releases “Araras”, accompanied by Hermeto Pascoal, in 2017. She goes on to present her repertoire in Europe, America and Africa, where she culminates the strength of her musical heritage in her work “Fume”, presented in 2020 as the end of a vital trilogy, with the collaboration of Chano Domínguez.
Her latest album “Mestura” (2025), continues to bet on cultural exchange as the inspiration and basis of her music.
