IWAF 2025: Waves of Interconnectedness

The International Women Artists Federation ( IWAF) Mauritius 2025 gathering celebrates the powerful theme of Waves of Interconnectedness. This concept reflects the waves that link each of us across borders, cultures, and generations. Like ripples in water, every action, every expression, and every creative impulse radiates outward, touching lives in ways we may not immediately perceive.

This theme resonates deeply with the gathering because art itself is a universal language, a path through which women from diverse backgrounds can share their visions, emotions, and experiences. Through painting, sculpture, installation, and dialogue, participants see how individual creativity contributes to a larger, collective flow, forming a network of mutual inspiration and understanding.

The “waves” are not only symbolic of connection but also of continuity and transformation. Each contribution, whether a spoken word, a brushstroke, or a collaborative project, merges with others, generating energy that strengthens the bonds of empathy, resilience, and shared purpose. In this way, gathering becomes more than an event; it is a living expression of interdependence that defines our human experience.

“Waves of Interconnectedness” reminds us that although each journey is unique, we are all part of a larger rhythm of life. By creating and sharing, women at IWAF show the power of collective expression and prove that connection, like art, can transform and endure. Art also strengthens communities and inspires social work, bringing hope and change where it is most needed

Master Class chant avec Carol Lamport : Les cordes vocales du chanteur

Carol Lamport, coach vocale, vous propose le deuxième volet d’une série en quatre parties :

L’air
Les cordes
La résonance
La psyche

Chanter librement et sans contrainte, atteindre toutes les notes, qu’elles soient aiguës ou graves, c’est le rêve de tout chanteur. Mais lorsqu’on commence à pratiquer le chant, ce rêve n’est pas toujours au rendez-vous. Les tensions apparaissent et s’accumulent souvent au niveau des cordes vocales. « J’ai mal à la gorge », « Ça serre quand je chante », « Je n’arrive pas à atteindre cette note », « Ma voix me lâche »…

Ah, les cordes vocales ! Véritables piliers de l’expression artistique du chanteur, elles se trouvent nichées dans le larynx, un organe souvent méconnu et mal maîtrisé.Comprendre les différents mouvements des cordes vocales, adopter les bons gestes et éviter les blessures sont les clés pour chanter vos chansons préférées avec aisance.

Dans ce masterclass, vous découvrirez comment le ressenti et la conscience du corps, alliés à une meilleure compréhension des cordes vocales, deviennent des outils essentiels au service de l’art du chant.

Carol Lamport est une passionnée de la voix et du chant. Elle chante depuis l’âge de 16 ans et a eu le grand privilège de participer à diverses grandes productions en tant que soliste dans des comédies musicales à Maurice telles que Starmania, Les Misérables, Zozef ek so palto larkansiel, et Sister Act. Elle est Coach vocal depuis 13 ans et elle a à cœur d’accompagner toutes les personnes qui souhaitent mieux chanter, et ce quels que soit leurs niveaux. Elle adore apprendre et n’a de cesse d’améliorer sa connaissance autour de la voix, ce qui la pousse à suivre deux formations intenses de coaching vocal. La première avec l’américain Robert Sussuma et son programme « The Singing Self Teacher program » et plus récemment elle a poursuivi sa formation de coaching avec le français Antoine Rudi, au sein de la « Vocal Coach Factory ». Aujourd’hui, Carol écrit et compose ses chansons, ce qui rajoute une nouvelle corde à son arc. Elle travaille actuellement sur son premier spectacle original qui verra le jour en mars 2026.

I will not abandon me

After several years of participating in group exhibitions, Aline Li presents her first solo show, I Will Not Abandon Me. This exhibition marks an important milestone in her artistic journey, offering audiences a deeper and more personal encounter with her work.

Through painting, Aline explores identity, vulnerability, and resilience. Her practice is rooted in a dialogue with herself: each canvas becomes both a mirror and a space of discovery. In her own words, her work flows like a river, moving through pain, frustration, healing, and ultimately love. It is a process that mirrors life in its struggles and joys, while affirming a sense of self-worth and belonging.

With I Will Not Abandon Me, Aline Li invites viewers into this intimate process of endurance and reflection, one that resonates universally with anyone who has ever questioned their place in the world.

LEVENNMAN 70 : Menwar ek so bann kamwad

LEVENNMAN 70 marque un moment historique : les 70 ans de Menwar, pionnier du séga ravann et voix incontournable de l’île Maurice.

Il a commencé sa carrière sous le nom de Lélou (1977), avant de publier plusieurs albums marquants au début des années 1980 (Souvenir Le Port, Letan Lenfer, Kiltir Dé Zil). Dans les années 1990 et 2000, il a parcouru le monde avec sa musique, enrichissant sa discographie avec des albums comme Leko Rivier Nwar et Pop Lekonomi. En 2006, il signe l’album culte Ay Ay Lolo, qui reste une référence pour toute une génération.

Pour célébrer ce parcours, Menwar sera entouré de ses compagnons de route et d’une nouvelle génération d’artistes, dans une soirée qui retrace plus de cinq décennies de création. Un voyage musical où tradition et modernité se rencontrent, au rythme du ravann, du séga et du sagaï.

He began his career as Lélou (1977), before releasing a string of landmark albums in the early 1980s (Souvenir Le Port, Letan Lenfer, Kiltir Dé Zil). In the 1990s and 2000s, he travelled the world with his music, adding to his discography with works such as Leko Rivier Nwar and Pop Lekonomi. In 2006, he released the cult album Ay Ay Lolo, a milestone that continues to inspire a new generation.

For this celebration, Menwar is joined by longtime collaborators and emerging artists, in a night that retraces more than five decades of artistry. A musical voyage where tradition meets modernity, carried by the rhythms of ravann, sega, and sagaï.

Mingle is a creative experience designed to bring people together through art, connection, and relaxation. The Sip & Paint sessions are accessible to all, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere where participants can freely explore their creativity while enjoying a fun social moment.

Léritaz Gran Mama

Après plusieurs années passées à l’étranger, Billy (incarné par Alexandre Martin), accompagné de son épouse, décide de rentrer dans son village natal — pour s’occuper de l’héritage laissé par sa grand-mère.

À son arrivée, il découvre une maison en ruine, laissée à l’abandon. Déterminé à lui redonner vie, il engage une équipe de rénovateurs pour la restaurer. En fouillant dans les affaires de sa grand-mère, Billy tombe sur une lettre qui lui est adressée. Elle y mentionne l’existence d’un trésor d’une valeur inestimable, dont lui seul pourrait découvrir la cachette…

C’est alors que les choses dérapent ! Entre un gardien trop bavard et un peu trop porté sur la bouteille, des ouvriers qui flairent l’existence du trésor et veulent s’en emparer à tout prix, une épouse furieuse qui complote pour s’enfuir avec son amant, un arnaqueur soi-disant chasseur d’esprits et… des esprits frappeurs qui n’en font qu’à leur tête, la maison devient vite un véritable champ de bataille comique !

Vwayazer presents a collection of moving image works that engage with narratives of movement unfolding in and around our island, while reflecting on the significance of travel within our collective memory. This gathering is a recognition of the travellers who, like mystics, never let go of their tether to the island across time and space.

As islanders, our unconscious holds conflicting memories of movement. Within the island’s layered histories we are all children of displacement. In our bones lie tales of travel, the migrations that were forced, the migrations that were chosen. Travel is a common denominator of our fractured identities; it has forged our collective culture of resilience.

Travel and the way we intuit and experience it as islanders today sometimes tends to our inherited traumas; travel also functions as an escape, a status symbol, a self-actualisation journey. For many of us, travel is a search for more hopeful futures.

These ideas of travel stand in contradiction to the images produced by the hospitality industry, which perpetuate romanticised notions of travel: voyages of discovery and fantasies of a tropical paradise ready for consumption or entertainment.

Vwayazer gathers a selection of Moving Image works in diverse forms, inviting engagement in alternative forms of storytelling. The selected pieces range from lyrical documentaries to video performance, animation, cinema-adjacent works and more experimental pieces.

Vwayazer reminds us of the distance between two points. It is an attempt at building bridges between islanders and the diaspora, between what’s far and what’s near, between what’s past and what is yet to come.

Scriptwriting, Directing & Acting Workshop – 2025

Incorporated in November 2017, Santral Art Ltd is a Mauritian company dedicated to developing the performing arts to international standards. Under the direction of Romi Poonoosamy (WAAPA and Edith Cowan University graduate), the company has delivered large-scale productions, festivals, and professional training workshops in Mauritius and abroad.

Chris Edmund (Australia) – International Director, Teacher, Writer, Painter. Former Head of Acting, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Directed over 150 productions worldwide. Mentor to actors including Hugh Jackman, Frances O’Connor, Jai Courtney, and Dacre Montgomery. Honoured with the Chris Edmund Performing Arts Scholarship in New York (2015). Experienced workshop leader across Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia.

Romi Poonoosamy (Mauritius) – Director, Producer, Technical Director. Founder of Santral Art Ltd. Administrator & Producer of MAMA JAZ Festival, Technical Director for major local and international productions, producer of the short film Repos (2025). Graduate of WAAPA and Edith Cowan University.

Masterclass de danse par Malaika

La danse est un outil de communication qui dépasse notre compréhension quotidienne du monde. C’est un acte de résilience face à un monde qui nous étreint et qui a envahi nos écrans au cours des dernières années mais aussi un moyen de se rouvrir au monde.

Inspirée par des chorégraphes tel que Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey ou encore Zab Maboungou, Malaika Salatis a appris à se réinventer à travers cet art pour créer son empreinte artistique. Découvrir son monde, c’est aussi découvrir le monde qu’il l’inspire. C’est apprendre à respirer et vibrer au rythme de la musique.

Née et ayant grandi à l’île de la Réunion, Malaika est une chanteuse, danseuse, mannequin et actrice professionnelle.

Elle s’est imposée comme une artiste très raffinée en Australie et s’est rapidement fait un nom sur la scène internationale. Malaika porte haut le drapeau de la Réunion et souhaiterait être une de ses ambassadrices culturelles. L’île de la Réunion, comme nous le savons tous, a une histoire unique profondément enracinée dans la culture française, mais son plus grand défi est de pouvoir exporter au-delà de ses terres une nouvelle identité à travers sa danse en mélangeant ses années de pratique dans le monde de la danse commerciale vers un genre pop/afro-urbain réunionnais.
