Kokuho (国宝) is a Japanese drama film directed by Lee Sang-il, based on the acclaimed novel by Shuichi Yoshida. The film follows the life of Kikuo, the son of a yakuza family who is drawn into the highly traditional world of kabuki theatre, tracing his long journey from a disadvantaged position without the benefit of a prestigious kabuki lineage to becoming a rare and celebrated kabuki performer. The film explores themes of lineage and talent, joy and despair, trust and betrayal, and the dedication of one’s life to the pursuit of artistic excellence.
The cast is led by Ryo Yoshizawa as Kikuo and Ryusei Yokohama as Shunsuke, Kikuo’s close friend and lifelong rival, who is himself a kabuki actor and the son of a famous kabuki family.
Upon release, Kokuho received strong praise from critics for its visual elegance, the meticulous attention to kabuki traditions, including the kabuki instruction provided by the celebrated kabuki actor Nakamura Ganjiro IV, ambitious storytelling, and the performances of its leading cast.
Audiences and reviewers particularly highlighted the film’s ability to make the specialized world of kabuki accessible to modern viewers while maintaining authenticity. Through its portrayal of kabuki as a living art form and its exploration of the relationship between lineage, talent, and artistic dedication, the film offers a compelling reflection on the continuity and significance of traditional Japanese performing arts in contemporary society.

For this special edition, This is Poetry leaves the walls of the Caudan Arts Centre and heads outdoors, to the garden of the Blue Penny Museum, for an evening of poetry under the stars.
Presented as part of the Caudan Arts Festival, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Le Caudan Waterfront, this edition invites poets and writers to explore the stories, places and memories that have shaped the waterfront and the city of Port-Louis.
From personal recollections to collective memories, from the treasures of our past to the heritage that surrounds us, this is an invitation to put into words our relationship with a place that has been part of Mauritian life for three decades.
Moderated by poet Rebecca D’Souza, the evening will bring together selected voices to share their original works in English, French or Kreol, through verse, prose and spoken word.
Whether you have a story to tell, a memory to revisit or a few verses to share, this is your opportunity to lend your voice to the celebrations and become part of the Caudan Arts Festival.
How to participate
For this special edition, we are inviting submissions of original texts inspired by one or more of the following themes:
- Memories, both collective and individual
Submission guidelines
- Only original texts written by the participant will be accepted.
- Texts must relate to at least one of the themes listed above.
- Submissions are welcome in English, French or Kreol.
- Each reading must not exceed 5 minutes.
- All texts must be submitted through the online submission platform by 15th November 2026 at midnight.
- Submissions will be reviewed, and only selected authors will be invited to perform their texts at the event on 20th November 2026 as from 19:00.

Every dream begins with a simple idea: “What if I could?
Our story begins with a group of children practicing, playing and discovering what they can do. Some tumble, some stretch, some dream of flying in the air, while others discover magic, juggling and circus skills. They quickly realize that there are incredible young talents everywhere—and they dream of finding a stage where those talents can be seen.
When they hear about an upcoming talent competition, excitement takes over. This could finally be their opportunity to perform, to be recognized and to show everyone what makes them unique.
One by one, extraordinary talents emerge: aerial hoop and hammock artists soar above the stage, gymnasts tumble, acrobats balance and lift, clowns bring laughter, and young performers fill the stage with color and imagination. But their journey suddenly changes when a strong character arrives and brings the competition to an end. The judges are thrown out, the performers scatter, and their dream appears to be over.
Instead of giving up, the children are reminded of something much more important: being a star isn’t about receiving a score, winning a competition or waiting for someone else’s approval. It is about having the courage to believe in what makes you unique.

Marking 25 years of music-making in Mauritius, the Frederic Chopin Conservatory’s 2026 showcase brings a unique dynamic to the Caudan Arts Centre: students and teachers sharing the stage. Our repertoire spans centuries and styles, featuring soloists and collaborative groups across four main instruments: Piano (classical structure and romantic melodies alongside complex contemporary pieces), Guitar (nuanced classical literature paired with modern acoustic compositions), and Chamber Ensembles (students and teachers playing side-by-side in duo and group settings, blending piano, violin, flute, and guitar).
About us: Founded in 2000 by pianists Lilia Poustovoytova and Dean Nookadu, the Frederic Chopin Conservatory of Music (Quatre Bornes) offers early beginner level to advanced level classical music instruction in piano, violin, flute, and guitar for children and adults across Mauritius. We nurture artistic excellence, proficient technique, and a lasting devotion to classical perform.
