Some artists are born into their practice. Others are called to it, after years of living a different life, until the pull of creative expression becomes impossible to ignore.
inshō is one of the latter.
A Mauritian visual artist and creative director, inshō spent eighteen years working in the financial sector after studying actuarial sciences in London. Numbers, models, probabilities, a world built on certainty and calculation. And yet, beneath that precision, something else was always at work. A way of seeing. A need to question. A conviction that the stories we tell ourselves about the world are never quite the whole truth.
When he chose art full-time, he did not simply change careers. He changed languages.
Today, inshō’s practice sits at the intersection of narrative, symbolism and the human relationship with the natural world. Working primarily in painting and drawing, he builds layered, immersive worlds, rich in colour, dense with meaning, that ask uncomfortable questions and resist easy answers. His work has been exhibited locally and internationally, earning him the Artist of the Year Award in 2022, the Impact Prize at the Samudra Art Prize in 2024, and a place in the Social Art Award 2025 publication in Berlin.
