Caudan Arts Centre proudly brings a bold new perspective to Shakespeare’s most celebrated tragedy, offering Mauritian audiences a renewed encounter with Hamlet, a play that, four centuries after it was written, continues to transcend time, cultures and generations. This 2026 adaptation preserves the classical beauty of Shakespeare’s original language while embracing a more contemporary staging, designed to open the doors of this iconic work to a wider and more diverse audience.

For the first time, Caudan Arts Centre presents a full Shakespearean production in English, taking on the challenge of the Bard’s longest and most complex play. The universal themes at the heart of Hamlet – conflict, power and corruption, appearance versus reality, and the burden of impossible choices – remain as relevant and compelling today as ever. By making these themes more explicit and accessible, this production aims to demystify Shakespeare and create a powerful, engaging theatrical experience for all.

This production seeks to offer students, educators, theatre-goers and first-time Shakespeare audiences alike an experience that is both immediate and enduring, delivering the emotional and intellectual impact that has made Hamlet a landmark of world literature.
