Avan Ler - Le Caudan Waterfront

Avan Ler

Avan Ler is a bold and vital musical production by the S'kool of Art that tackles the often-silent challenges facing today’s youth. Through a blend of music, drama, and authentic storytelling, the show explores the realities of puberty, teenage pregnancy, and STIs. Designed to spark dialogue between generations, Avan Ler serves as a powerful call to action for parents and educators to break cultural taboos and provide young people with the guidance they need to navigate adulthood safely and confidently. By blending music and drama, Avan Ler challenges parents to dismantle cultural taboos and engage in honest, life-saving conversations with their children before it's too late.

Avan Ler is more than just a musical comedy—it is a transformative social tool designed to protect and empower the next generation. The show is designed to be a bridge between generations.

The show dives head-first into the “uncomfortable” conversations that many families avoid. By portraying the lived experiences of teenagers, the production sheds light on critical issues including:

The Journey of Puberty: Navigating the physical and emotional changes of growing up.

Teenage Pregnancy: Realistically portraying the consequences and social pressures faced by young parents.

Sexual Health Awareness: Providing clear, stigma-free information regarding STIs and prevention.

The Weight of Peer Pressure: Exploring the psychological struggle of fitting in and the courage required to say “no.”

Substance Abuse & Drugs: A sobering look at the realities of drug use and its ripple effects on health, family, and future prospects.

At its core, Avan Ler is a bridge between parents and children. It challenges the traditional “taboo” status of sexual education in Rodrigues/Mauritius, advocating for a home environment where questions are welcomed rather than silenced. By combining catchy music and relatable characters with hard-hitting truths, S’kool of Art creates a safe space for families to learn, laugh, and—most importantly—begin a life-changing conversation. It’s time to talk, avan ler (before it’s too late).
