AN EVENING WITH BARON FENWICK: BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE THROUGH MUSIC

Internationally renowned pianist Baron Fenwick (New York, USA) acclaimed for his fiercely energetic performances with orchestras around the world makes his first visit to Mauritius. Joined by Mauritian artists and children from the School of Music in Richelieu, Baron takes the audience on an exciting journey around the world without boundaries, with a breath-taking programme spanning from the music of celebrated classics to joyful modern interpretations. The evening pays tribute to human solidarity, friendship, support and hope. Organized jointly by the Rotary Club of Albion, the Conservatoire National de Musique Francois Mitterand, and the Caudan Arts Centre, the evening is a fundraiser benefiting children of the Schools of Music in Richelieu and Albion.

This concert initiated by the Rotary Club of Albion as a fundraiser benefiting children from the Schools of Music in Richelieu and Albion brings an internationally acclaimed young american pianist Baron Fenwick to Mauritian audience.  Baron is a winner of numerous international awards and have been performing with orchestras in various cities around the world.

Importantly, Baron engages in a community service as a vivid music teacher for children and aspiring young artists, including Mauritian children from the Schools of Music in Richelieu and Albion (led by Jean Pierre Madoosing and Lucan Camangue, respectively). The two Schools of Music are supported by the Rotary Club of Albion, in recognition of the positive and formative impact of music from early childhood through life.

This concert offers a unique experience of joy reaching without boundaries to people of good will, promoting solidarity, friendship, support and hope.

Baron Fenwick, together with acclaimed Mauritian artists, joined by the children of the School of Music in Richelieu, deliver a delightful programme spanning from the music of celebrated classics to joyful modern interpretations.

 

BARON FENWICK

Baron Fenwick (32) is an internationally renowned pianist currently based in New York, USA. He frequently receives immediate acclaim for his fiercely energetic performances. In addition to a track record of winning international, national, and school-wide competitions, Baron maintains a demanding schedule performing in many prestigious venues in various cities, from New York to Beijing. In 2024, he made his solo debut in Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium performing his own improvisation on themes from Bernstein’s West Side Story, courtesy of the St. Cecelia Chorus of New York. His work as a soloist has developed with reengagements from the Flint Symphony, the South Shore Symphony, the Western Piedmont Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of Southern Maryland, and the Beijing International Music Festival and Academy, among many others.

His awards and honors are highlighted by the Silver Medal at the 2019 Sendai International Music Competition, as well as first prizes in the Jacob Flier Competition, William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition, Mannes College Concerto Competition, and runner up/alternate in the Juilliard Concerto Competition. Upon graduation from Mannes College of Music, Baron received the Steinway Piano Award and the Felix Salzer Theory Award. He also won a career grant from Salon de Virtuosi, a nomination to the American Pianist Awards, and the Press Award as well as a semi-finalist honourable mention at the Olga Kern International Piano Competition.

Baron has received critical praise over many years, recently this April for his “command,” “lyric backing and elegant rhythm,” (McEneaney, Millbrook Independent) accompanying Leonard Fu, newly-appointed second violinist of the Juilliard String Quartet. His performances encompass a broad range of interests, including classical music and jazz. Baron has been most active in the sphere of new music, giving more than 50 world premieres, and he has enjoyed collaborations with Lowell Liebermann, Caroline Shaw, Julia Wolfe, and Matthew Aucoin. In addition, he is a staff pianist for Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program, and a Teaching Fellow at Juilliard.

Community work: Baron engages in local communities as a vivid music teacher for children and aspiring young artists. He loves collaborating with other musicians, sending the message of uplifting music around the world.

Baron received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mannes College of Music. Currently, he is pursuing his Doctorate of Musical Arts at The Juilliard School in New York City.

Currently living in New York City, Baron originally hails from Boone, North Carolina.

 

 

JEAN PIERRE MADOOSING

Jean Pierre Madoosing is a recorder and trumpet player. He began his career teaching recorder in 1995. The following year, in 1996, he distinguished himself as second soloist in J.S. Bach’s 4th Brandenburg Concerto, accompanied by the Cannes National Orchestra. In 1997, he won a bronze prize at the Eisteddfod International Competition in South Africa. In 2005, he received his diploma in Recorder Performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). From 2010 to the present, he has been actively involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects, supporting recorder education for underprivileged children in Richelieu, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Albion. In 2020 he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Pedagogy.
